Around 8:00 AM, departure from Arequipa with our 4 wheels in the direction of the Chachani Volcano. It will take 2h30 of transportation to arrive above 5000 meters. There, we'll start a 2-hour trek around an ancient crater in an arid ecosystem dotted with a few plants like "yareta" to arrive at the base camp located at 5200 meters above sea level (17060 ft). We will set up our tents and the camp there, and we’ll have a part of the afternoon to rest and make exercises of acclimatization. We will enjoy the view on the snow-covered Ampato and Coropuna summits, and also magnificient colors of the end of the day and a starry sky in the evening (it’s an opportunity to make incredible pictures!). Dinner then short night sleep.
Breakfast at 1:00 AM before starting the ascent up to the Chachani summit. It will be a constant effort during 5 to 6 hours during which we will enjoy amazing panoramas of the mountains and the volcanoes. Along the way, we will pass by the "Fatima" and "Angel" peaks. Then impressive sunrise and arrival at the Chachani crater at 6000 meters above sea level. We'll stay there about ten minutes to get our strength back and take great pictures, and those who want can walk 25 minutes more to reach the top, at 6075 meters! From up there, you'll enjoy an incredible 360 degrees view on the surroundings. Then, way back to the camp during 2 hours and we’ll continue 2 hours more to arrive at the 4 wheels waiting for us to return to Arequipa. Arrival downtown around 4:00 PM.
